Ingredients
- 6 beef or all-beef hot dogs
- 6 hot dog buns
- 1 tablespoon butter (optional, for toasting buns)
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or cheese blend)
For the chili:
- 1/2 pound ground beef
- 1/2 small onion, finely diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup tomato sauce
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/4 cup water (as needed to adjust consistency)
Directions
- Make the chili:
In a skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef and onion until browned. Drain excess grease.
Add garlic and cook for 1 minute. Stir in tomato sauce, tomato paste, chili powder, cumin, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10–15 minutes until thickened. Add a splash of water if needed. - Cook the hot dogs:
Grill, boil, or pan-sear the hot dogs until heated through and lightly browned. - Prepare the buns (optional):
Lightly butter and toast the buns on a skillet or grill for extra flavor. - Assemble the chili dogs:
Place a hot dog in each bun. Spoon chili generously over each one. Top with shredded cheese. - Melt the cheese (optional):
Place assembled chili dogs on a baking sheet and broil for 1–2 minutes until the cheese melts and bubbles. - Serve:
