Sticky Chicken

Ingredients:

For the Chicken:

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts or chicken thighs
  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water

For Garnish (optional):

  • Sesame seeds
  • Sliced green onions

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Chicken:
    • Season the chicken breasts or thighs with salt and pepper on both sides.
  2. Cook the Chicken:
    • Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or frying pan over medium-high heat.
    • Add the chicken pieces and cook until they are golden brown on both sides and fully cooked through. This will take about 4-5 minutes per side, depending on the thickness of your chicken. Remove the cooked chicken from the pan and set it aside.
  3. Make the Sticky Sauce:
    • In a small saucepan, combine the soy sauce, honey, brown sugar, ketchup, minced garlic, minced ginger (if using), and crushed red pepper flakes.
    • Bring the sauce to a simmer over medium heat, stirring constantly.
  4. Thicken the Sauce:
    • In a separate small bowl, mix the cornstarch and water to create a slurry.
    • Slowly add the cornstarch slurry to the simmering sauce while stirring continuously.
    • Continue to simmer the sauce for a few more minutes until it thickens and becomes sticky.
  5. Coat the Chicken:
    • Return the cooked chicken to the skillet or pan with the sticky sauce.
    • Coat the chicken evenly with the sauce by turning the pieces and spooning sauce over them.
    • Simmer for a few more minutes to allow the chicken to absorb the flavors and the sauce to cling to the chicken.
  6. Serve:
    • Transfer the sticky chicken to a serving platter.
    • Garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions, if desired.
    • Serve hot with steamed rice or your favorite side dishes.
