Simple and Delicious Loquats (Japanese Plums)
Introduction (short)
Loquats, also known as Japanese plums, are small golden-orange fruits with a sweet-tart flavor. This simple recipe enhances their natural taste with a light syrup and spices, turning them into a refreshing dessert or topping for yogurt, pancakes, or ice cream.
🧂
Ingredients
2 cups fresh ripe loquats (Japanese plums)
½ cup sugar (adjust to taste)
½ cup water
1 tablespoon lemon juice
½ teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
A pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg (optional for warmth)
👩🍳
Instructions
Prepare the loquats:
Wash the fruits thoroughly. Cut them in half, remove the seeds, and peel the skin if desired (it’s edible but can be slightly bitter).
Make the syrup:
In a small saucepan, combine water, sugar, and lemon juice. Heat over medium flame until the sugar dissolves completely.
Add the loquats:
Gently stir in the loquat halves and cook for about 5–7 minutes, until they become tender but not mushy.
