Homemade picadillo for dinner

Homemade picadillo for dinner is a wonderful choice! Here’s a simple recipe for homemade picadillo:

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound ground beef (or a mix of ground beef and ground pork)
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 red bell pepper, chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, diced
  • 1/4 cup tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup pimiento-stuffed green olives, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons capers
  • 1/4 cup raisins
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder (adjust to taste)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Cooked white rice, for serving

Instructions:

  1. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until it becomes translucent, about 2-3 minutes.
  2. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
  3. Add the ground beef (or beef and pork mix) to the skillet. Cook, breaking it apart with a spoon, until it’s browned and cooked through.
  4. Stir in the chopped green and red bell peppers and continue cooking for a few minutes until they begin to soften.
  5. Add the diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, sliced green olives, capers, raisins, ground cumin, and chili powder. Mix everything together.
  6. Reduce the heat to low, cover the skillet, and let the picadillo simmer for about 15-20 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and the sauce to thicken. Stir occasionally.
  7. Taste the picadillo and adjust the seasoning with salt and pepper to your liking.
  8. Serve the homemade picadillo over cooked white rice. You can also garnish it with additional green olives and capers if desired.

This savory-sweet dish is full of flavor and perfect for a hearty dinner. Enjoy your homemade picadillo!
