Brazilian Seafood Rice, or “Arroz de Marisco,” is a vibrant, aromatic dish filled with fresh seafood, rice, and a mix of spices that brings the flavors of the ocean to your table. It’s perfect for a family dinner or a special occasion!
Ingredients
For the Rice and Seafood:
- 1 lb mixed seafood (shrimp, mussels, squid, and fish fillets)
- 2 cups long-grain white rice
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 red bell pepper, diced
- 1 green bell pepper, diced
- 2 medium tomatoes, chopped
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp ground cumin
- 1/2 tsp turmeric
- 1/4 tsp chili flakes (optional for spice)
- 2 cups chicken or seafood broth
- 1 cup coconut milk
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Juice of 1 lime
Directions
- Prepare the Seafood:
If using shrimp, mussels, or other shellfish, make sure they’re cleaned and deveined. Cut the fish fillets into bite-sized pieces. - Cook the Vegetables:
Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, garlic, and bell peppers. Sauté for about 5 minutes until softened. - Add the Tomatoes and Spices:
Stir in the chopped tomatoes, paprika, cumin, turmeric, and chili flakes (if using). Cook for 2-3 minutes until the tomatoes break down and the spices become fragrant. - Cook the Rice:
Add the rice to the pot and stir to coat with the vegetable and spice mixture. Cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally. - Add the Liquids:
Pour in the chicken or seafood broth and coconut milk. Stir well and bring to a simmer. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Cover the pot and cook on low heat for 15 minutes, or until the rice is tender and the liquid is absorbed. - Add the Seafood:
Once the rice is cooked, gently stir in the seafood. Cover and cook for another 5-7 minutes until the seafood is fully cooked and tender. - Finish the Dish:
Remove the pot from the heat and stir in the fresh cilantro, parsley, and lime juice. Adjust seasoning if needed. - Serve:
Serve the Brazilian Seafood Rice hot, garnished with additional herbs if desired. You can pair it with a side of sautéed vegetables or a fresh salad.
