Light, airy, and melt-in-your-mouth delicious—these homemade doughnuts taste just like the famous Krispy Kremes, fresh from your own kitchen!

Ingredients:

For the Dough:

  • 2¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • ½ cup warm water (110°F)
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup evaporated milk
  • 1 egg
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2½ cups all-purpose flour (plus more for kneading)
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)

For the Glaze:

  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • ¼ cup milk
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

Directions:

  1. Activate the yeast:
In a bowl, combine warm water and sugar. Stir in yeast and let sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Make the dough:
Add egg, evaporated milk, melted butter, and salt to the yeast mixture. Stir in flour gradually until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead & rise:
Turn dough onto a floured surface. Knead for about 5–7 minutes. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  4. Roll & cut:
Punch down dough and roll out to ½-inch thickness. Cut using a doughnut cutter or two round cutters (one large, one small for the hole). Place on floured baking sheet. Let rise again for 30–40 minutes.
  5. Fry time:
Heat oil in a deep fryer or pot to 350°F (175°C). Fry doughnuts 1–2 minutes per side until golden. Drain on paper towels.
  6. Make the glaze:
Mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth. While doughnuts are still warm, dip the tops into the glaze and let set on a wire rack.
