FRIED APPLE or PEACH PIES

Ingredients:

For the Fruit Filling:

  • 2 cups of peeled, cored, and diced apples (or peeled, pitted, and diced peaches)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon cold water

For the Pie Crust:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2/3 cup cold vegetable shortening
  • 6-8 tablespoons ice-cold water

For Frying:

  • Vegetable oil for frying
