Maraschino Cherry Cookies

Soft, buttery cookies bursting with sweet maraschino cherries and a hint of almond—perfect for holidays, special occasions, or just because!


Ingredients

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 tsp almond extract
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup chopped maraschino cherries (drained and patted dry)
  • Optional: 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips or white chocolate chips

Directions

Step 1: Prep the Oven

  1. Preheat oven to 325°F (165°C).
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.

Step 2: Make the Dough

  1. In a large bowl, cream together butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Mix in almond and vanilla extract.
  3. Add flour and salt, mixing just until combined.
  4. Fold in the chopped maraschino cherries (and chocolate chips if using).

Step 3: Shape & Bake

  1. Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough and roll into balls.
  2. Place on baking sheet about 2 inches apart.
  3. Slightly flatten each ball with your fingers or the bottom of a glass.
  4. Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until edges are just lightly golden.

Step 4: Cool

  1. Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes.
  2. Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
